Holiday Season Weddings
While December isn’t the most popular time of year for weddings, most years I work with at least one bride who has chosen this festive month for her nuptials. Winter break for schools and colleges and the influx of family far and wide make it a logical time for a wedding. Regardless of one’s religious or cultural beliefs, here in Kentucky we live in a society that heavily embraces Christmas traditions. If some of these décor traditions can be incorporated into your wedding aesthetic, they can make for a beautiful wedding!
Regardless of one’s religious beliefs, incorporating elements of the season in the wedding décor is a wonderful way of celebrating the day. At end of autumn and beginning of winter, this idea embraces the use of evergreen foliage, like pine, spruce, and magnolia, along with pine cones, berries, and sparkly crystal elements that invoke the feeling of frost and icicles. Combining these items with fresh flowers creates a look that is evocative of winter, as well as unmistakably bridal.
I have chosen photos of some weddings I have done in the last couple of years that exemplify the use of winter elements to varying degrees. A couple of the brides loved everything about Christmas and traditional holiday décor, while another wanted to focus the overall look on her special day. If you are planning a December or January wedding, I recommend taking a walk on a frosty winter day and observe the subtle beauty that is so easily missed while we’re busy and usually indoors staying warm. Take inspiration from nature and let your imagination soar!
