Go Green!

You’re probably thinking this is going to be a blog post about sustainable farming practices and reducing one’s carbon footprint when holding an event, right? Although I am certainly a proponent of each of us doing our part to preserve our planet and provide for the generations that follow, that’s not at all what I’m talking about here. I’m literally referring to the color green!

The bride who inspired this post and the accompanying photos, was wearing a gown with a lace overlay. The lace was called “fern lace”. Her wedding was in early April, and she chose to embrace the use of ferns in her florals, loving the idea of using the vibrant green of early spring to celebrate her day. We chose mostly foliage in her bouquets with some green flowers (green miniature hydrangeas and ‘Green Trick’ dianthus), with an emphasis on the use of sword fern fronds. Unlike any wedding I had done before, I absolutely loved the results! The ‘Green Trick’ dianthus looked like moss, so the whole bouquet invoked the feeling of being in the forest.

While the monochromatic use of green may not appeal to some brides, heavy use of foliage is very on trend these days. Interesting and choice greenery adds textural contrast as well as a heightened look to your florals. Premium varieties of greenery are more costly than basic floral shop greenery, but it certainly elevates your florals, and can be as luxurious as garden roses.

So as you’re planning your floral décor, remember to go green!
